Back in the summer of 2024, we sent our original door off for restoration work.
The door had been in place since the Tower was built in the early 1800s, and it was rapidly deteriorating.
Over the years, various work had been done to it which weakened its overall condition. This not only detracted from the historical significance of having an original door, but also posed a security issue.
Thanks to generous donations from visitors at open days, and support from Eastbourne Borough Council, we raised enough money to send it for repair.
We consulted with Historic England and ensured the work retained as much of the character of the door as possible.
After fantastic work by local firm Colbran & Wingrove, we are delighted to say it is now back installed at the Tower!
We look forward to welcoming visitors over the coming months – keep an eye on our website and social media channels for announcements.
We will continue to use funds raised at open days to improve the condition of the Tower. You can also support us by donating online, spreading the word about our work, or signing up to volunteer with the Wish Tower Friends.
