In early 2023, we were awarded funding from National Lottery Heritage Fund to help relaunch the Wish Tower Friends group.

The pandemic years proved a challenge for opening up the Tower while keeping everyone safe, and keeping a strong base of volunteers.

Part of this project has included a refresh of the signage around the Tower – making easier-to-read and more engaging content for visitors both inside and outside.

The new signage was designed by two of our young volunteers recruited at the start of the relaunch in 2023.

We now have 5 new pull-up banners inside the Tower so visitors can learn in more depth about the history of our Martello during our open days. We also have 4 interpretation panels fixed to the steps outside the Tower, so passers-by can find out about the historical significance of the Tower even when we aren’t open.

You can see below some before, during, and after photos of our new panels being installed outside. Click or swipe right to see the changes, and if you aren’t already, follow us on Instagram to keep up to date with us. It took just seconds for people to start reading them!

All of the new signage is now in an easier to read colour scheme, has updated pictures, and features a QR code link to our refreshed social media pages and website, which we also launched last year.

We hope these changes will help share our rich history further, add interest to the visiting experience, and even encourage more volunteers to join us! Thanks to the National Lottery and its players for supporting our work.
