We wave goodbye to another fabulous set of Heritage Open Days events at the Wish Tower!

While sadly we weren’t in luck with the weather every day, it was brilliant to welcome 308 people to the Tower over seven openings, including four special architectural tours.

Generous donations from the Heritage Open Days events have totalled a brilliant £240 – which is a vital contribution towards keeping the Tower open safely and allowing us to share our history.

Visitors learning about the history of our Tower through archive photos and our pull-up banners, which we were able to redesign and print in 2024 thanks to funding from National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Wish Tower Friend, Ben, talking to one of our architectural tour groups about our Magazine Room.

One of the features Ben pointed out is our original copper door frame. The room would have contained explosive materials, and so copper was used to help prevent sparks!

One visitor to our architectural tours said:

“I really enjoyed the enthusiasm and depth of knowledge shown by all the guides. Great that the guides ranged in age too, lovely to see young people interested in the subject.”

Wish Tower Friend, Liz, taking one of our architectural tour groups around our Moat.

Did you know that the Wish Tower was originally accessed by drawbridge, where the steps currently are – and in 1919, a second drawbridge was built? They were both removed in 1958.
